TAKING THE HELM FOR AUDIO & LIGHTING, WE TEAMED-UP WITH SOME OF THE BEST TALENT IN THE INDUSTRY TO BRING THE SPIRIT OF REBEL JAM TO LONDON
Brief
Rebel Jam first shook up the competition scene in 2005, hosting a rider-focussed event that the BMX community craved. A decade later, we were invited to help bring Rebel Jam to London. The venue for this Vans-sponsored event was York Hall a listed building once used by the Kray Brothers as a boxing gym.
We were given just two days build time, (including practice runs) in which to transform the venue working with Van’s course designer and builder in order to create a live broadcast quality event space whilst avoiding any damage to this landmark building.
Delivery
Engaging a structural engineer to not only give us safe roof loadings for rigging lighting but also to ascertain levels of reinforcement required to make safe the floor as it is a unique suspended floor covering an old Victorian swimming pool.
Once we had final calculations and come up with many solutions and work around’s to ensure the event would be safe, we worked to a very tight timeline to install all of the rigging, audio, lighting and AV as well as facilitating broadcast. We worked closely with Vans on producing and installing branding to work with the existing venue infrastructure as well as the course itself and this gave a very tight look on camera and in the building.
Once all this was in place we assisted the course builder with our experienced team of site crew and worked overnight to ensure the riders and athletes maximum practice time on the course.
Results
All of this led to a super-charged high octane competition with the famous Vans brand once again foremost and centre in the extreme sports arena producing a first class contest that was viewed around the world.
